Who We Are & What We Do....

The Mission of the Office of Environmental Protection is to protect and preserve the environmental  resources of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, both on tribal lands and within shared communities, with a primary focus upon preserving cultural integrity  and exisitng tribal sovereignty through environmental capacity enhancement and tribal environmental code development and implementation.

The Office of Environmental Health and Engineering (OEH) was developed by the tribe to facilitate the protection of environmental resources while increasing tribal environmental technical capacity.    OEH does not seek to duplicate efforts of other tribal programs or non-tribal agencies but will instead serve as a resource to address gaps in environmental protection which have resulted from the legalities of overlapping and checkerboarded jurisdictions which exists in Oklahoma.

OEH is reliant on grants for the overwhelming majority of its project funding.   Each grant or specific project is listed to the left.   A simple click on the menu to the left will link to the specific project or grant program and its accomplishments.
